Ink Studio AI: best for a quick flat mockup
Ink Studio AI’s Virtual Tattoo Try-On lets you upload a body photo and a design, then move, resize, rotate, blend, and download the result. It is intentionally described as a 2D planning preview, not AR or 3D.
This is enough when the question is, “roughly how large should this be on my forearm?” It is not enough when the design wraps around a shoulder, calf, rib cage, or full sleeve.
Tatship: best for a dedicated 3D workflow
Tatship’s current pricing page advertises 3D body try-on, unlimited try-ons and downloads on its paid plan, and advanced custom edits. Choose it when comparing the concept from several angles is more important than having the lowest short-term price.
Its displayed monthly price is $17.99; verify the annual checkout price before buying. A 3D preview is still a planning image, not a simulation of a tattooed result.
BlackInk AI: best for try-on inside a larger suite
BlackInk AI combines body-placement visualization with generation, placement templates, stencil conversion, and 4× downloads on Pro. That can reduce tool switching for a sleeve or multi-piece plan. Paid subscriptions currently start at $15 monthly, and the free tier includes one limited visualization.
How to make a useful mockup
- Use a sharp photo taken straight-on in even light.
- Keep the body part relaxed and avoid a wide-angle lens.
- Remove any white background from the tattoo design if the tool supports it.
- Match the design’s perspective to the body surface.
- Lower opacity slightly so skin texture remains visible.
- Export at least two sizes and one alternate placement.
- Show the original clean design as well as the mockup.
When a human placement session is better
For large, wrapping, symmetrical, cover-up, or anatomy-dependent work, ask an artist to place a printed or hand-drawn stencil on your body. That session reveals movement, landmarks, existing tattoos, scarring, and proportions that a browser preview cannot reliably model.
Use virtual try-on to ask better questions. Do not use it to override an artist’s placement judgement.
